After all our hard work on the house, we decided to skip town a couple of weeks ago. We headed for Greenville, SC (2 hours away). First stop was Horizon Records, where we enjoyed an awesome free concert by Josh Rouse. We got to see him close up and meet him and have him sign our cd. Rob and I had been planning an expensive date to see his concert in Asheville, so we were really happy to discover this free option and the girls thought it was very cool. Then we went to super fun Falls Park and spent a long time wading in the river and climbing on all the rocks.
Another fun weekend event was a fancy dinner party at our friends, the Mercers. Kim's brother was visiting and he's a REAL chef, so Maddie and Eloise watched all the kids at our house and David made a fabulous dinner for the grown ups. Menu: Pork loin stuffed with lamb's quarter, citrus mascarpone beet salad, broccoli & cauliflower gratin, Italian soda, and berry-topped angel food cake. I went home full and very happy.
The last big adventure was a Nascar race! Our neighbor won 3 tickets, but couldn't use them, so Rob took Eloise and Sarah Jane. A nice lady in front of them gave them each a pair of earplugs, since they weren't prepared for the noise level of the cars racing the track. Now that we know we're leaving North Carolina, we're trying to make sure we get in all the "must do" experiences in. Let it be known that Nascar has now been experienced.
