Is it spring yet?

Sarah Jane is so eager for the pool to open that she's put on her swim goggles and visor. While we wait the several weeks for the pool to open we watch our first experiment with seeding dead spots in our lawn. It might be more accurate to talk about live spots since the dead spots seem to far outweigh them. This is something along the lines of a glass half full/half empty. But even the optimists would agree that we need turf help. Oh well, at least the Bradford pear trees are maintenance free; they're in bloom and very beautiful.

Time to begin. Madeline, 10. Sarah Jane, 5.

Our sweet Sarah Jane turned 5 yesterday, March 10th. Yesterday's birthday bash came on the heels of Madeline's entrance into double digits on February 25th.

Where has the time gone? These events seemed to us a perfect time to begin a blog--still not happy with that name--of our family.

Madeline's birthday was a great success thanks to thoughtful packages, calls, and cards from loving grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She got a piece of calcite from dad--Maddie is crazy about rocks and minerals. She also got to invite her teacher, Mrs. Taft and her family, to a special birthday dinner.

Sarah Jane had a wonderful day on the 10th despite the fact that she says her "ear bulbs" have been burned out all week (i.e., an excuse not to listen to her parents). She requested German Chocolate Cake -- properly capitalized here because it is the cake of monarchs. Delicious. But, lest we seem too pretentious, Sarah Jane revealed that we live in the land of NASCAR by insisting that we invite her birthday guests (the Bradford family) to a dinner starring corn dogs and tater tots.
