Our weekend also included fresh shrimp and grits for breakfast, long midnight talks with John and Laurie, amazing cookies and milk, a stop at Fort Fisher (a Confederate Civil War fort), and the North Carolina Aquarium. We even tasted honey from the Paarlberg's first hive of bees! Monday was FINALLY a warm sunny day and we spent several happy hours at the beach before heading home to "real life" and lots of sandy laundry. Oh, that's just the best, huh?

Wonderful Wilmington
We had a 3-day weekend last week so we went to visit some friends in Wilmington, NC. John and Laurie Paarlberg (friends from Indiana) graciously opened their cozy empty nest to us and never complained about all the noise/mess/havoc we created and all the food we ate and ate and ate. We got rained out at the beach on Saturday after a couple of windy, chilly hours. But Laurie volunteered to babysit that night, so the girls had pizza & a movie and Rob and I got a romantic dinner on the riverfront. We went back and got the girls for a late-night carriage ride around downtown Wilmington. Our friend John drives the trolley carriage, so it was really fun to take his tour and learn about the history and old houses there. The girls loved the idea of being out late and enjoyed petting the horses and riding the trolley.
